Political posters spoil beautification drive in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: With assembly elections round the corner, political posters have taken a toll on the beauty of street art, or graffiti, which came up in Ludhiana as part of a muchpublicized beautification campaign earlier this year.
Offended by the act, some city residents have taken a pledge that they won't vote for parties that spoil graffiti.“Street art and graffiti gave the city a vibrant look.Politicians don't care about the hard work put in by activists and NGOs who worked for them. I have taken up the mat ter with the authorities and they have assured us action,“ said Shobhan Soi, owner of a private school near Pakhowal Road.
Soi said he had posted all the pictures on his social networking sites so that more people became aware of the problem and they also join in. He said his post has already been shared by more than hundred people. A social activist from the civil society group Transformation of City , Ravi Arora, said they would start a campaign after Diwali to remove the posters.
